Dainis Gudovskis

Graduated from the Art Academy of Latvia, Faculty of Visual Plastic Arts, Department of Glass Art, Riga, Latvia, in 1989. He started his career as a glassblower in a factory, later a designer, but made a great contribution while working in the Department of Glass in the Art Academy of Latvia. He has been a teacher of many students, an inspirer of young glass artists, an impulsive challenger of their minds, capable of creating a real storm of ideas. His other muse is watercolor painting, in which he has been active for many years and still is.
Serving both his muses, he has been participating in international exhibitions, plein airs and symposia since 1980. He has held more than 40 solo exhibitions in Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Germany, France, Ukraine, Slovakia and more. He has participated in 50 international symposia in different countries all over the world and more than 600 international and regional exhibitions in almost 50 different countries.
His art, both glass sculptures and watercolors, is dynamic and expressive, alive, and fresh, just like himself. His talent manifests itself in playful, sometimes challenging rhythms and an excellent sense of form, often provoking the viewer’s intellect. His glass sculptures can surprise, they are saturated and light at the same time, hiding a tense nerve that keeps a sense of life vibrating. In his works, he deliberately abstracts the direct expression of reality.
